Morning person vs Night person

The street lamps are glowing, the chill of the night air and it's stillness linger, and David's missing it.

For as much of my life as I can remember I have always been the last one in bed and asleep as well as the last one up in them morning. I enjoy the quiet peacefulness that night time brings. But, here it is midnight and I am trying to convince myself that I need to go on to bed and try to sleep.

David on the other hand is on a completely different schedule. Once the sun sets he fights off sleep and with good reason, because come the wee hours of the morning...the hours when I am finally sleeping good and just dreaming good, he is up and enjoying his morning coffee.

Emma is on my schedule. It is nothing for us to bundle up and head out for her last walk at 11:30 or midnight. And I guarantee you that if I would choose to sleep until noon, she will be tucked away, sleeping right beside me.

For years I have envied those couples who lock up and crawl into bed at the same time. You know, like the Walton's did. Everyone snug as bugs in their beds and told goodnight as all the lights go out. That is not the case here!

Many times I have tried. Got up via an alarm clock, filled my day with lots of activity and then crawled in with him. How romantic...until it is 1:00am and I have been staring for four hours into the darkness or peered into that same darkness towards the smoke detector waiting on that green light to change. Honestly, it's torture. Mainly because my brain goes into overdrive and I start fretting and worrying about all the things I can't change.

So, it's after midnight and David's been in there for hours, sleeping like a baby. Emma and I have taken 2 walks, I packed his lunch, studied more choreography, played kitchen fairy and tidied up the kitchen and I have scanned my facebook pages, Pinterest, and now, I have blogged.

Do we have different internal clocks? He is the morning person, and me, well, you know by now, I am the night person.
Yep, different as night and day, and we are both ok with it, it just isn't going to change...we have learned to make it work. I wonder how many other couples in this world share our habits?

Cold weather blues

In the last few weeks we have finally had winter. It can go home! Emma and I say, "Poo!" The weather man has brought us cold, snow, ice and not very walking friendly weather! She and I both long for sunny warm weather, conducive to long leisurely walks that end in a nice long nap. We both have the winter blues!!

Last weekend we planned on having Trenton for a make up weekend, and the ice showed up :(

My little red corolla was trapped in what I like to call Lake Shaker Lane...there was a good 4 inches of solid ice! Colleen and I had planned on her virgin Metropolitan Opera in HD experience...we had to cancel, it was not worth slipping and sliding and we both acknowledge that neither of us wanted to spend $$ on car repair or replacement! Emma wasn't too pleased with it either! She tiptoed thru the grass and had the worst luck trying to find the perfect place to do her business because the ice tickled her paws and all her favorite smells were frozen in the ice!

This is our real weekend to have Trenton and that goofy weather man is calling for flurries....we pray that's all, cause we miss the potter patter of Trenton's feet and the giggles of him and Emma playing!

All I asked for was a Zoo?!

Cold, windy, and tired of being stuck in a cold house, we bundled up and went to the movies!

First of all..we went to get warmed up, emotionally and physically. Lots of feel good moments ensued...and Yes, I cried, several times. But, physically??? Not so much :(. The theatre was so cold, any snake from the movie would've surely died from exposure! I sat through the entire movie in my coat and scarf and if I would've had gloves, they would've been on my hands! It was so cold that my nose and upper lip are chapped from the crying I did in the cold.

Complaining aside....it was so good that I endured the cold, smiled, cried and cheered Benjamin on as he took his family on the adventure!

When it was over I looked at David and requested that he buy me a zoo! Everybody knows I adore the Zoo and it is one of the best parts of living in Cincy, so my request was not something he shouldn't have seen coming! How great would that be? Lions and tigers and bears right there in your backyard?! I would LOVE it!!

Posting a thumbs up and recommending everybody go see it! I was glad we picked it...even though are other choices were Tom Cruise jumping around topless or Robert Downey taking is down another Sherlock adventure. 10 stars for the Zoo....

I STILL want one!!!

The Health kick continues.

Being the good wife that I am, when David said, "Let's have pizza?" which we do as a good luck peace offering to our beloved Mountaineers on game day. I said, it has to be on whole wheat crust.

Love his heart, he was frantically googling our local pizza places for one who had the whole wheat crust availability. :( No such luck! (This would be a good idea! If any pizza dudes are reading this!)

Quickly I asked what he would like for toppings and then I bundled up, ear muffs, scarf, two pair socks, boots, 32 below gloves and took a quick trip to Krogers. I knew they carried a pre-made good tasting whole wheat version and the particular store near us, normally has very good produce for toppings. Mind you my car said it was 19 degree's and my phone said the windchill was 4! But, if he wants to join me in being healthy then I'm gonna do whatever it takes!

Now let me review this product. It is NOT white crusty, yeasty goodness. It IS filling, hearty and makes thin crust more filling and it is more chewy. Of course they only carry the one to a package variety and the do not offer the personal size, but we simply did one of those 1/2 and 1/2 pizza's. You guys know how picky I am! He wanted bell and banana peppers, sliced tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, black olives and extra sauce. Me? I wanted cheese, pepperoni, black olives, mushrooms and a scant amount of sauce.

I followed the baking instructions after I carefully made "our" pizza and after we ate half of it, I realized I should blog about it and needed a picture. Here...sorry I forgot until we ate 1/2 of it!

It turned out well. I will admit I searched for whole wheat pizza crust mixes, there aren't any. I have seen some recipes using a whole wheat tortilla's...gonna try one of those later. I guess I'm gonna have to play with my whole wheat flour and yeast to see what I can come up with.

Healthy pizza...success! That's two new Milam menu changes that turned out well! Ahhhh.....

Old man winter shows his face :(

The snow was blowing and I am NOT ready for it, neither was Emma, or so I thought. This time last year we had already become accustomed to the slick, cold wet white stuff. We didn't like it then and I still don't.

Emma seemed to have a difference of opinion, she ran like she belonged out in it. Most of you know I teach Zumba, and on Thursdays, I drive down the 2 lane road of Route 123 to Blanchester. Not today! In my mind I have vision of me trapped in my little red ski machine sitting in the middle of one of the many fields along the way. Therefore, I just stayed put and watched it from the comforts of my couch. Emma was happy I wasn't leaving her, but, I was sad I didn't get my Zumba on.

I pray this isn't the start of something bigger......the sand in my veins are clogging just at the mere thought! Old man winter, GOOO home, your not wanted here!!

Martha Inspired!

Here we go! Looks like the new year has brought along some new goals. I often try to make healthier choices and encourage David because of his history of heart disease and s/p coronary bypass, but this time of year gives us a chance to refocus on them and see the changes thru.

One of my favorite resources is

I accidentally subscribed to this Martha Stewart Living magazine product, and it has quickly become one if my favorite finds in the mailbox! We have tried and added several of the recipes to our menu. Today we are trying yet another one.

When I was taking the picture I realized it was intended to be a Wednesday night meal....hahahaha, that's exactly when we are trying it.

Those of you who know me, know i detest tomato's, so i will give my portion of those to David. Wish is luck? I will let you know if it is Milam menu worthy!

Emma's PERFECT DAY!

The calendar states that today has been January 7th...that means we have had another Birthday around here!! Our little ball of love, Emma Grace turned 2!

Due to her terrible food allergies, I feel she should get a real treat on her birthday. So, mom & dad took her for a ride, which she loves,

and headed to McDonald's! You've read before that everybody gets a special birthday meal, this is hers. Cheeseburger (minus the buns) and a small order of fries.

She gobbled it all up and then we took her to Petsmart and she got a new blingy pink collar, new pink leash and some wheat free Paul Newman treats.

We took our 2nd Birthday pictures and love her heart, she even lifted her chin in hopes you could see the collar...I'm thinking she needs a trip to the groomer!

The rest of the day she just laid around, and then.....

She came looking for mommy to rub her belly. Her birthday meal had filled her to the brim...

As of now, she is stretched out beside me, filled up with birthday treats, and its been almost 8 hrs since she ate. I feel bad for her.

Maybe next year we won't over indulge so much....I love her too much to see her miserable.

Happy 2nd Birthday Emma Grace!! We sure are glad you picked us!!

What we did since last I blogged :)

After our quiet Christmas morning we more than made up for it the week after. David, Emma & I drove over to WV on Wednesday to exchange presents with our family there. Waiting on everyone to get home from work meant we had a late night, but it was well worth it. I think my "gifts" were all

successful. It tickled me to know that the Marshall hat with ear flaps was the one everbody wanted.

Since it was well past bedtime when we were all done, Trenton and I spent the night at his beloved Aunt Dee Dee's and then we drove back to Cincy on Thursday morning.

Trenton thought we should go home, open presents and then drive back to Aunt Dee Dee's..."I love her so much!", of course we didn't. 6 hours on the road is not our idea of a fun day with a four year old. But I was sure to tell Dory about our conversation regarding her later that evening. He is taken by her...it's sweet!

Trenton was pleased with all his gifts, but I'm pretty sure his favorite was his OWN bedroom! Equipped with his very own twin bed, cool Zoo bedding, his tv, all his toys and a cool new fish tank to use as a nightlight.

The holidays are over, Trenton went back to the Earley's on New Year's Day and the clean up and put away has been going on here. Hopefully next week will feel more like normal?
